Discrimination in Islam: The Missing Peace

Thursday, November 12th at 7-8:15pm

DeNeve Plaza Room D

Co-hotsed by: Afrikan Student Union & Muslin Student Association

Our event's goal is to address the stereotypes of discrimination in Islam. This will occur in two types of topics. The first topic will address past racial discrimination against African-Americans and how this ties into their religion. For example, the Middle Passage slave trade which occurred hundreds of years ago involved a majority Muslim population and we will focus on how this impacted the people's lives and how their religion may or may not have been a factor in their treatment. In addition we will cover the significance of the contribution of the Muslim slaves in the American life. Our second topic will detail the parallels between the present treatment of Muslims in the United States and the past treatment (and could be argued for present) treatment of African-Americans. Also will be discussed is how this further effects those who are both African-American and Muslim and how this plays a role in their lives. In addition, this topic will cover Islam's anti-discriminatory stance and its stance on general human rights.

The Budget Review Committee

What is the Budget Review Committee?
The Budget Review Committee (BRC) is essentially the body that decides how USAC funding is delegated. It meets regularly towards the start of every quarter over a week or two of hearings that determine whether or not student organizations attain the funding they request, and deliberate on how money is allocated through the various funds available to student groups on campus.

What is the role of the Assistant Budget Review Director?
The Assistant Budget Review Director serves as an aide to the Budget Review Director (BRD) and shall, in his absence, be responsible for all duties, responsibilities and obligations that he has which are, but not limited to sitting in on budget hearings, as well as representing the BRD at USAC meetings. The Assistant Budget Review Director is also directly instrumental in the tabulation process behind the said hearings and assisting in any capacity possible for any other office duties deemed necessary.

Requirements
As with the Finance Committee, a finance background is preferable. He or she must be available throughout the entirety of the hearing dates, and be willing to work with the Budget Review Committee, Finance Committee, and USAC for all activities that concern this position. A positive learning attitude and a willingness to work immediately are an added bonus.
