11-20-2009
Hello ASU Family,
On behalf of the ASU staff, I would like to thank all of those who participated in the UC Regents protests this past Wednesday and Thursday. ASU is disappointed with the UC Regents' decision to pass the 32% student fee increase. It has already been vocalized by several members of our union that this additional 32% will make it impossible for them to continue their education at UCLA. This increase can potentially threaten the very existence of the Black community on campus, which is why ASU will continue to fight this increase. Please say tune for ways in which you can help this process.
On a lighter note, I was very proud to see what a force ASU brought to the protests. This is what ASU should look like at all times. The Afrikan Student Union at UCLA has once again lived up to its legacy of leadership and action on campus. It is the vision, mission and agenda of the African Student Union to protect the access and retention of Afrikan students on UCLA's campus---and that is what the protests were all about.
I encourage all of you to display the same level of commitment for the upcoming ASU meeting with UCLA Chancellor Gene Block this Monday 11/23 at 8:00am.
In Love and Solidarity,
Tierra Moore
Internal Public Relations Coordinator

What is the Immediate Support and Relief Task Force?
This task force is a part of the larger Affordability Committee in the USAC President's office that works to address students' immediate affordability needs on campus.
